In the UK alone, 108 million rolls of wrapping paper are thrown away each year, not forgetting the reams of ribbons and tape. Wrapping paper containing, plastic, glitter and tape cannot be recycled and heads straight to landfill.
Try the simple 'scrunch test' if the paper holds its shape when scrunched into a ball, it's recyclable; if it springs back it's not. Nearly every piece of plastic ever made still exists today, it is estimated that it will take around 450 years for plastic to break down in the ground.
Choosing reusable, sustainable, long life alternatives not just for Christmas but all year, really will make a difference.
